Excursion program

Our route begins from the place where in the distant XVIII century the western gate of the city met the imperial "train". \

Then we will go to one of the oldest circuses - the Grikke circus - 1 from 8 circus “centenarians” in the world. The building was built by a very wealthy industrialist, a German by birth Heinrich Grikke. City legend says that it was a gift from his lover, a former circus artist - a rider who dreamed of having her own circus. The hall was designed in such a way that it was possible to give theatrical performances and circus performances. The arena was covered with special shields, armchairs were placed, and the circus turned into a theater. All programs went without a microphone, as the room has very good acoustics.

After a tour of the unique building, we will go to the once-largest theater in the world, the Circus Mussoorie. It accommodated about 5 of thousands of spectators, while the Old Circus - only one and a half thousand. Under Soviet rule, in 1926, a musical comedy theater was opened here.

On the way, we will look at the place where the cultural life of the city — the legendary Tivoli Park — concentrated at the turn of the century.

Then we will walk along the main street of pre-revolutionary Kharkov - Yekaterinoslavskaya Street (now Poltava Shlyah) –the street of theaters, expensive hotels and the first stationary cinema in the Russian Empire. We learn how people lived at that time, what were they interested in. We will see houses where city celebrities, merchants, consuls, fashion photographers once lived.

We will complete our walk into the past with modern views of the city and the new circus in the “Arrow” square.
