Perekopsky shaft

The town of Valka is bound by its name to the tract, near which it was founded. The tract was named so, because between the headwaters of the rivers Mzha and Kolomak there was a bulk shaft about 6 km in length.

From the reports of the governor to the Moscow authorities (17-th century) it follows that at that time the shaft was about 3 meters wide, and before it there was a ditch depth of about 2 meters. About the origin of the shaft did not remember anything. By that time he was crumbling in places. It was updated, reinforced with "nodules and a piece", and used as a border fortification. Obviously, the first creators of the shaft also built it for this purpose.
