Mukachevo

Mukachevo is one of the most popular places for tourists not only in Transcarpathia, but also in Ukraine as a whole. The history and the present of the city is inseparably linked with the Mukachevo Castle. The city originated with the Castle and today it lives largely thanks to the Castle!

The construction of the castle began in the XIV century and continued for three more centuries. Palanok all this time, like all Transcarpathia, repeatedly passed from hand to hand - it was under the Poles, Austrians, Hungarians. The greatest prosperity of the city falls on the first half of the XVII century - the reign of the Transylvanian princes Rákóczi. This dynasty includes the legendary ruler of Mukachevo Ilona Zrini, Count Dracula and the adventurer Count Cagliostro.

Mukachevo captivates guests with its European beauty. Among the attractions: City Hall in the central square; a monument to Cyril and Methodius, who brought writing, culture and religion to Transcarpathia; a monument to the cheerful and kind chimney sweep Sazhotrus with his beloved cat; St. Nicholas Orthodox monastery, which is more than 300 years old.

The whole city is crossed by the river Latoritsa, on the banks of which there are cozy hotels, restaurants, shops. On the streets of Mukacheve, in one minute you will meet both the Hungarian, Rusyn, Hutsul, Strike, Lemka, and hear all European languages.
