Kamenetz-Podolsk

Kamyanets-Podilskyi is a pearl of Ukraine, a tourist mecca, an ancient city located on the high slopes of the Dniester Canyon. The city was founded during the times of Kievan Rus as a powerful fortress at the intersection of trade routes from east to west.

From a bird's eye view, Kamyanets-Podolsky resembles a small stone miracle on a rock, since it was built on a peninsula with an area of only 121 hectares and is surrounded by the Smotrych River with a canyon 40-60 m deep. The city is mentioned as early as the XNUMXnd century in the writings of Claudius Ptolemy as the Dacian city of Klepidava - “a fortress on the rocks”.

Kamenets is a city-museum in the open air. The main attraction of Kamyanets-Podilsky is its powerful fortress, which has been preserved much better than all other fortresses of Ukraine. The last restoration was carried out here in 1999 year, and now the fortress is in excellent condition.

In addition to the castle, there are many other tourist sites in the Old Town. This is the medieval Catholic churches, and one of the oldest city halls in Ukraine, and Armenian barracks - more than 150 sights. By the number of monuments of history and culture, this Ukrainian city is second only to Kiev and Lviv.

The National Historical and Architectural Reserve "Kamenetz-Podolsky" is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
